Valentines Day Gifts

So, Clueless Guy contacted me the other day with some advice on for him gifts for this romantic holiday.  He found an article on ESPN…. go figure…… with some helpful ideas.

Although the ideas are mainly for him, my personal fav that is a “for anyone” gift is the Apple !Pod.  And look above……. it’s pink!

I already have the video !Pod but I can honestly say that it never leaves my side.  I love the memory capacity and when I’m on a trip, I can also watch movies.  It’s a great gift for anyone who isn’t afraid of technology.  Sorry Mom, Dad, and Grandma…. maybe this gift isn’t for you.  Oh well, there’s always records.  Or maybe 8 tracks?  Do those still exist?

Remember the old atari systems and games? Yes, I realize it’s going back a few years but I remember how much fun i had, not to mention how many hours I put in.

I don’t realize how fun the old school systems were until they keep coming out with newer systems.

My ultimate goal this Valentine’s Day? To convince my significant other to get me the 2-in-1 Nintendo Nes/SNes system. Not to mention the few necessary games like the Super Mario Series, Mario kart, Dr. Mario, and Donkey Kong….. all my addictions!

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year’s Eve and is ready to have an incredible 2008!

One of my buddies last night had a Nintendo Wii party at his house to ring in the new year.  I didn’t go to it (lured by another party which had a pool table and hot tub), but I’m very jealous that he has the Wii.  Those sports games seem so cool.  And I know it’s not the most romantic gift in the world, but it might be something fun you can do together as a couple - and what could be a better Valentines Day Gift than just spending time together?  (Was that a little too mushy?)

I hear that pocket watches are making a comeback. I don’t know exactly who carries them - I’m just telling you what I heard. Not for me, but then again I’ve never been one to wear a watch at all. For whatever reason, they make me jittery (don’t laugh. Oh wait, you already did? Nevermind then). I think it’s because I’m constantly checking the time, so that makes me constantly worried about being late. So…I guess maybe I do need a pocket watch then.

Of course, I already have a cell phone which sends emails, makes and receives calls, has chat capabilities, plays old Nintendo games, stores books, and even…tells the time. Oh, and it can be a tip calculator.

Anyway, the point is that some people really like pocket watches. It probably makes them look cool or old school or something.

Awww, that’s really sweet, Clueless Guy, to get something for your grandma.  I’m sure she as well as all Grandmas and Grandpas would love a gift on Valentine’s Day. 

After reading your blog regarding your golf gadget though, it got me thinking….  how many times have I taken a road trip and my boyfriend asks where we are and where we should’ve turned?  Way too many for me to count.  And, he usually refuses to pull over and ask for directions. 

With a car GPS system, you will never have to pull over because the GPS will tell you when to turn and how far you have left before turning.  I don’t have one in my car yet, because…. well, my car doesn’t have a whole lot of anything, but if I could afford it, I definitely would have one.  That’s why it would be a nice gift, and make driving and time go a lot smoother.  (Let’s just hope that the operator is smart enough to know that if the GPS says to turn and there’s a lake, not to drive into it, cuz’ well…. that wouldn’t be good.)

Wow Hot Chick, that’s a pretty cool idea. It’s really unbelievable how many different video / photo Valentines Day gifts are out there. I had no clue (obviously) before starting this blog. Those gifts are always great for parents and grandparents too.

Now for something that’s not in the least bit sentimental but it really caught my eye today. I came across a new product called the GPS Golf Guru.

This thing helps you locate golf courses, gives you information about the course, gives you directions to get to the course. Then when you’re on the course, it helps you determine distance to the pin, find hazards, etc. Plus it helps you keep track of your score, and you can upload your scores to the USGA handicapping people. I’m pretty sure it can make a sandwich for you while you’re on the course too.
This is definitely the ultimate golf gadget. Would be awesome for any golfer.

Well, I am finally coming down to the level I thought I never would.  I’ve always been against buying video games as a gift, but it can be fun if you’re both included.  My man has been bugging me forever to get him this, but I’m afraid he’ll pay more attention to it than me. 

I have done some research and it looks like the XBox 360 would be pretty fun.  There’s tons of cool games to play.  I tend to feel left out though so I only advise this as a gift if you intend on making it fun for both of you.  Invest in some games that you’ll both love to play, together!

And if that doesn’t work, you can always buy the original Nintendo NES for yourself.

Ok, so I admit, I am a tad spoiled but my vote on this ring calculator thing? A tad cheesy….. I don’t think how you feel about someone should be based on how much you spend on a ring. For me? Well, don’t get me wrong, I think I deserve more than a cubic zirconia, but I don’t want my man paying for life on a ring either. Somthing simple and elegant will do. My advise……. go with your best judgement and I’m sure she’ll love it.

Ok, now to what I was really planning on talking about. Clueless Guy has mentioned on many occasions that a gift should be something practical. So, why not a laptop computer? That’s practical…. and totally convenient.  It’s a perfect gift for anyone! (And… I don’t have to leave my couch to check my email or play a little solitare. )

Since Clueless Guy and I seem to be talking about saving memories, I came up with another way to do just that. I have always wanted a video camcorder. It’s a great way to capture, say….. the sunset or a romantic vacation. Or…. well, I won’t go into detail about other possible uses, but I’m sure all you guys out there can imagine the endless possibilities.

Plus, if you have a couple of little ones, it’s a great way to capture their first steps or even first words. Not to mention the goofy tricks your pets will do.

Yes, believe it or not, I did take shag lessons. I could learn the moves, but I looked like a complete robot out there - no rhythm at all. Big gumpy uncoordinated white guy trying to dance. Quite amusing I’m sure.

Hot Chick, you’ve had some great ideas recently about getting photo albums and digital frames. But first and foremost, you need to get a good digital camera. I’ve bought a couple in the past but somehow managed to lose both of them when the relationship I was in broke off. Not exactly sure how that works. I do seem to remember buying them, yet I don’t have physical evidence of it and no ability to take pictures - except on my phone. I guess I’m not a very good negotiator. Fortunately for me, prices for digital cameras have fallen significantly over the past five years.

Looking into Buy.com, you can even buy one for $63. $63! And I’m sure it’s better than the one I bought for probably $400 four years ago. Anyway, a digital camera is something anyone can use and makes a perfect gift to capture those couples moments.
