Candlelight Dinner

October 06, 2007 By: Hot Chick Category: Travel on Valentines Day, Hot Chick Articles, Valentines Day Gifts for Couples, Valentines Day Gifts No Comments →

Alas, something we can agree on. Maybe there’s still hope out for all you clueless guys. With today’s gas prices on the rise, however, having money is a major dilema so maybe the romantic spa getaway and Vegas will have to wait. Renting a hotel room for a night may not seem practical but as a person who has done this idea for my own anniversary celebration, it is in fact very romantic.

My personal touch, however, can be a romantic candlelight dinner for two. Whether you both team up and prepare the meal together at home or get lucky enough to book a room with a kitchen, there is nothing more romantic then a home cooked meal by candlelight. Epicurious provides recipes specifically for Valentine’s Day and any other occasion.

So, turn the TV off, light up those candles and enjoy each other’s company.

No Time to Travel for Valentines Day

Those spas look like a lot of fun, but you can get the same luxury resort stuff in if you pick the right Vegas hotel as well. It’s not all about the gambling, strippers, and nearby legal prostitution - despite what the commercials will have you believe. You could spend a whole week there and not put a single dime into a slot machine.

But if you don’t have time to travel anywhere for Valentines Day, you can have the sense of getting away by staying in a fancy hotel locally. It might seem silly to spend money on a hotel when you can sleep in your own bed, but it can be fun. Go to a nice restaurant (either within the hotel or not). Get dressed up. Drink some wine. Book a hotel with a hot tub / jacuzzi and a king size bed.

Some of the hotels even have special packages lined up with cheese / strawberries / chocolates / wine already prepared in the room. Good times - expensive for the night, but well worth it. And not nearly as expensive as a real trip can be.

Luxurious Spa Getaway

Ok, Vegas for Valentine’s Day? Um, yea……. Are you kidding me? I mean, I don’t know about the rest of you ladies but I think watching naked strippers dancing on bars and prostitutes trying to lure our men into paying them for sex is a great way to spend my Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to go to Vegas but I really don’t think this romantic holiday is the right time to do so. (Yes guys, I did in fact link the word romantic to the true definition of romance. It seems you may be a little lost on the meaning.)

(Then again, I’ve also never been to Vegas, so who knows what I’d say if I had the chance to go…. Vegas Baby!!)

I was thinking, though… why not combine the best of both worlds. Men are not willing to compromise, but I think I may have found the best romantic getaway where you both will have fun. There’s spas, beaches, golf courses and yes, even a casino resort for all you gamblers. At least this way we’ll be able to keep a closer eye on you men while enjoying a luxerious massage that we might not be able to get from you at home.

Vegas Vacation

I really can’t believe there’s a recommendation for What Women Want and a naked guy on this blog - in the same post no less. I didn’t even remember which movie that was until I checked the iMDb link. Ah yes, a crappy chick flick with Helen Hunt and where Mel Gibson lost any self-respect he had (six years before he removed his white hood and revealed himself as the Grand Wizard).

What was interesting looking at the actors in that movie was that Ana Gasteyer was in it, even before she made it big on Saturday Night Live. And you can’t think of Ana Gasteyer without thinking of her impression of Celine Dion. And you can’t think of Celine Dion without thinking of Vegas.

Vegas Strip

And you can’t think of Vegas without thinking, Hey wouldn’t that be a fun couples trip? The lights, the gambling, the food, the nice fliers handed to you on the strip. But before you book that Vegas hotel for Valentines Day, take a step back. If you ask your girlfriend to go with you to Vegas for Valentines Day, she might infer you want to visit one of the many chapels while you’re there. Which would be fine if that’s what you want to do, but I can’t think of a more awkward situation than being 3000 miles away for days with one person planning on getting married and one just wanting to have a good time. So make sure you’re on the same page. Hell, getting married by Elvis in Vegas on Valentines Day might be a great time - and much less expensive than a traditional wedding (depending on how much you lose gambling while you’re there).
